What is Code 95?
Code 95 is a European directive that has been made mandatory for drivers who drive a vehicle that requires a C2, C, D1 or D driver's license. To show that you are and remain competent, you must take refresher courses every five years. By taking these refresher courses, you earn Code 95 points. Every five years you must obtain a minimum of 35 points, otherwise you are no longer competent to drive the vehicle. Depending on the number of practical lessons of the training course, a number of Code 95 points are awarded for completing the training course.
-
Why was the European directive established?
The aforementioned European directive was introduced to promote road safety in Europe. This directive should reduce accidents involving either buses or trucks. An additional reason why this directive was introduced at the time is to reduce overall fuel consumption in Europe. This will contribute to a better and cleaner environment which ultimately benefits both the planet and people. The fact that every driver has to take refresher courses every five years will, by all accounts, increase road safety.
-
How do the Code 95 points show up on my driver's license?
Have you fulfilled the mandatory 35 hours? Then this will be passed on to the RDW. The RDW registers your hours and when you pick up your new license they will add the Code 95 points to your license. You can check the status of your hours at www.mijnccvexamenhuis.nl. When you register, make sure to indicate that you want to take the training and that you would like to do so according to the Code 95 refresher training guideline, because we will eventually pass on your hours to RDW. If we do not know that you want to qualify for Code 95 points, unfortunately we cannot pass anything on to the RDW.
-
How long must you take continuing education to receive 1 Code 95 point?
To earn 1 Code 95 point, you must complete at least 1 hour of continuing education at an accredited training institution. However, a continuing education course can consist of several hours. Most continuing education courses consist of blocks of 7 hours per day and can be divided into several days. Thus, the exact length of time to obtain 1 Code 95 point depends on the length of the continuing education course you take. -
What is the minimum age to obtain Code 95 points?
To obtain Code 95 points, you must first hold a valid C, C1, CE, or C1E driver's license. To obtain these licenses, you must be at least 18 years old in most EU countries. There is no minimum age for continuing education, but it is usually intended for professional drivers who are already working in the transportation industry. So to obtain Code 95 points, in most cases you must first become a professional driver or already work in the transportation sector and have a valid driver's license. -
How long are Code 95 points valid?
Code 95 points are valid for five years from the date the refresher training course is completed. To maintain your professional competence, you must complete at least 35 hours of continuing education within this five-year period and have the points credited to your driver's license. If you do not complete the required continuing education hours on time, your professional competence will lapse and you will not be allowed to work as a professional driver until you have again fulfilled the continuing education requirement. It is therefore important to keep track of your Code 95 points and take the required refresher courses on time. -
