The Basic Safety SCC (B-VCA) exam has always been available in 18 different languages. Now another language has been added. The languages available for the SCC (B-VCA) exam have been expanded by one. As of 1 August 2022 the SCC (B-VCA) exam will also be available in the Ukrainian language. Due to the many developments in the Ukraine and the influx of refugees from the Ukraine to the Netherlands, the demand for Basic Safety SCC (B-VCA) exams in the Ukrainian language has increased enormously. That is why VCA Infra has decided to develop a Ukrainian SCC (B-VCA) exam. During the past period we have worked hard on it and now the complete exam has been made available.
Recently Ronald Quik (director) and Suzanne Hordijk (sales) were interviewed by the petrochemical magazine Europoort Kringen. Read the entire article below.
Thinking in terms of solutions
DELTA Safety Training is regarded as a training centre with a personal touch. Flexibility, unburdening and thinking in terms of solutions are of paramount importance, as Ronald Quik and Suzanne Hordijk of the company explain.
Director Ronald Quik of DELTA Safety Training sees them come in sometimes, people who are not really in the mood for a day's course. "But after the welcome by our friendly hospitality ladies, with a really good cup of coffee in a pleasant atmosphere, you see them think: it might be a nice day after all. That way we, and especially our trainers, are immediately 1-0 up." He has been co-owner of the training centre on the Geyssendorfferweg in Rotterdam since 2018, after first working there on an interim basis. "I found it such a great company, with so much potential, that I took the plunge and got in. My aim was and is to further expand DELTA Safety Training into a successful company, where our clients are satisfied and our people enjoy working."
Coming home unscathed
At DELTA Safety Training, employees of companies in the petrochemical, offshore, wind energy and maritime sectors can follow safety training courses. The training centre is, among other things, certified to provide SOG safety training for trainees of petrochemical companies. "We offer safety training for both SMEs and multinationals. Think of it as our contribution to ensuring that employees from these companies work safely and come home in one piece at the end of the working day," says Quik. He says he regrets that some companies still see safety as a cost item. "It is not. Proper training ensures fewer accidents, less absenteeism, more job satisfaction and also more skilled employees. That business case is as clear as daylight."
Facilities
"For us, it's about the people," adds Suzanne Hordijk. "We want to do our bit to ensure that they do their work as safely, competently and efficiently as possible. We feel responsible for this." Hordijk has extensive work experience in the petrochemical, offshore and wind industry and has recently joined DELTA Safety Training as sales manager. She calls it a 'fantastically beautiful location'. "It is a modern, colourful and pleasantly furnished centre, with a mix of experienced male and female trainers. When trainees first arrive, hardly anyone expects that we have so many facilities: a fire container for simulating fires, a confined space for training manhole guards, there is independent breathing apparatus, there are flange trees for training flange mechanics, aerial work platforms, forklifts and a swimming pool for training employees of wind, offshore and oil and gas companies."
Own dashboard
"One of our main goals is to make the customer's life easier," Quik continues. This is done in several ways, he explains: "With bookings, customers can assume that a training course will always go ahead. They don't get stories from us that a training course is cancelled because the class isn't full. The training stands. Furthermore, we always provide confirmation within a day. For a quality or HR employee, that is great, because they can tick off their list. Customers also have access to their own dashboard, where they can see which employee is registered for which training course. They can also check which training courses have already been followed. In addition, they receive a reminder from us when a certification is due to expire." Hordijk: "The nice thing about this is that you have a fixed line of communication with the clients. This helps them to commit to DELTA Safety Training for a longer period of time." The training centre further distinguishes itself by the comfort of an indoor location, the NRTO quality mark and the continuous training of the trainers. Quik: "Every trainer has a training plan, goes on a study day every month and they are also regularly trained in didactics."
Adaptation of lesson plan
The outbreak of the corona pandemic offered Quik and his people the opportunity to do what they do best: think in terms of solutions. "At the first lockdown, we quickly took measures to be able to teach in accordance with the RIVM guidelines. Our trainers adjusted their lesson plan. Normally, for example, students apply bandages to each other. We purchased mannequins for this purpose. We also use 70-kilo dummies, which are close to the human body, for rescuing people at height. We also had to incorporate all these changes into the accreditations, which was a monster task all in all. But we did it, and I am very proud of the team. We have a nice, spacious building, in which we can give our training courses within one and a half metres and in compliance with the hygiene measures."
In discussion
The changeover is an example of innovative thinking, says Quik. "Now, since the last lockdown in December, training courses that are required for practising a profession or business - focusing on skills and occupational safety, for example - are allowed to go ahead. I advise customers to talk to us if they have questions or doubts. There are so many possibilities, such as online training or working in groups with employees from just one company. It makes me happy when clients call us for advice or consultation after yet another Corona press conference on TV!"
