The soil remediation examination is a medical examination that is mandatory for anyone who will be working with contaminated soil or contaminated (ground)water, as described in the CROW 400 guideline. Before an employee starts this type of work for the first time, a comprehensive initial examination is carried out. During this baseline assessment, a doctor assesses whether the employee is physically fit for the work and whether there are any potential health risks. To continue to monitor whether the employee remains healthy and does not suffer any damage from exposure to hazardous substances, a repeat examination is then carried out annually.
The exact details of the soil remediation inspection depend on the function and the protective equipment used by the employee. The CROW 400 guideline distinguishes between three categories:
Type A for work without respiratory protection
Type B for work involving the use of air-dependent respiratory protection
Type C for situations requiring air-independent respiratory protection
The G34 examination is a special medical examination for employees who work with fluorine and related inorganic compounds. The purpose of this examination is to protect your health by checking whether you can work safely with these substances and to identify any health problems at an early stage.
The Astrand Cycle test is a commonly used submaximal fitness test on a bicycle ergometer that provides a safe way to estimate your maximum oxygen uptake (VO₂max), an important measure of your aerobic endurance. During this test, you cycle for six minutes at a fixed resistance while your heart rate is continuously measured. In the last part of the test, your heart rate must be stable; this value is used together with the wattage, your age, and sometimes your gender in a nomogram or formula to calculate your VO₂max. Because the test does not go to maximum effort, it is well suited for health checks, training, and rehabilitation.
The Chester Step Test (CST) is a submaximal fitness test in which you step up and down on a 30 cm high step at an increasingly faster pace. The test consists of five phases, but stops as soon as your submaximal limit is reached. After each phase, your heart rate is measured to assess your aerobic fitness. Because the test is safe and accessible, it is often used in physical fitness assessments for physically demanding work. The results provide a fitness score and appropriate exercise recommendations.
