Banksman Basic (NOGEPA 1.9A)
The NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman practical training course has been specially developed for operational personnel involved in lifting activities on board ships and/or on oil platforms and petrochemical installations. The objective of this Banksman training is that the participants, in cooperation with the crane operator, perform the lifting activities safely, responsibly and efficiently. As of December 2021, a (valid) NOGEPA Banksman 1.9 will no longer count as an exemption for SOG ABvL.

Contents NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman Course - Basic
The training consists of a combination of theory instruction and practical exercises with a mobile crane and other lifting equipment.
Theoretical learning objectives:
- Knowledge of different cranes
- Material and equipment, including
- fiber cables
- fiber slings
- steel cable
- slings
- DNV 2.7-1 container
- shackles
- necklaces
- hoists and winches
- lifting beams and spreaders
- blocks
- ROV equipment
- Recognize and inspect (unsafe) materials and equipment
- Knowledge of storage and registration of lifting equipment
- Rules and regulations
- Lifting of personnel
- Assessing risks and taking appropriate action
- Anchor operation
- Basic calculations and load
- Certification, inspection and marking
- Mass estimation
- Safe use of material
Practical learning objectives:
- Selection of the safest and most efficient materials and equipment
- Dimensions of the load
- Mass of the load
- Centre of gravity of the load
- Inspection of the equipment
- Daily maintenance of the equipment
- The use of hand and arm gestures
- Communication by VHF
- Tackling of loads
- Applying security measures to all the above activities
Participants who pass the theory and practical exam will receive a Banksman NOGEPA 1.9A certificate. Within the (petro)chemical industry in The Netherlands this certificate gives an exemption for the SOG ABvL and VVL-H certificates and can therefore be taken instead of these courses.

Basic Training NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman Course - Basic
This training is a basic training and is meant for people who do not (or no longer) have a valid NOGEPA 1.9 (A or B) certificate.

What language is the NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman Course - Basic taught in?
The training is given in English. On request or if only Dutch-speaking students participate, the instruction can be given in Dutch. However, the teaching material and the exam are in English.

In which industry do employees need a NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman certificate?
If you work on ships or are involved in hoisting activities on drilling platforms, you must be in possession of this certificate. Both the crane operator and the other employees must be able to carry out their work safely. -

Who is the NOGEPA 1.9A Banksman training for?
If you work offshore and are involved in hoisting activities, you must be in possession of a NOGEPA 1.9 Banksman certificate. Both the crane operator and an employee must be in possession of this certificate. Even if you only support the crane operator, you must be aware of the dangers of hoisting.
