The GWO Sea Survival module is designed to give students tools to act safely and take the right preventive measures during offshore activities. In this blended learning variant, unlike the classroom variant, you can follow the theory part independently at a location and time of your choice. The duration listed in the left menu of this training page represents the number of practical training hours at our location. On top of this duration are the number of training hours you will spend on the theory part at home.
The GWO Sea Survival training course is one of the five modules of the GWO Basic Safety Training course developed by the Global Wind Organization for people working in the wind industry.
The full package teaches participants everything they need to know to work safely in the wind industry and consists of the modules:

Contents GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning)
The GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning) course covers the following topics:
- Dangers and symptoms of hypothermia and drowning
- Understanding the benefits and limitations of the various LSA, PPE and PFPE commonly used in the offshore wind industry and how to use them
- Safe transfer from vessel to jetty, vessel to platform and vessel to vessel
- Know emergency procedures and safety on the installations, vessels and WTG
- Knowledge of SAR, GMDSS Recovery and First Aid after 'man over board'.
- Evacuating a WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) on water with a Constant Rate Descender
- Perform individual and collective survival techniques at sea.

GWO Sea Survival Basic Training - Basic (Blended Learning)
This training is a basic training and is intended for you if you have no experience with survival at sea, or do not (or no longer) have a valid GWO Sea Survival certificate.

In what language is the GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning) taught?
The training is given in English. On request or if only Dutch-speaking students participate, the instruction can be given in Dutch.

What are the admission requirements for the GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning)?
- Valid GWO WINDA ID*
If you already have a WINDA ID: Please enter it in the comments field in the booking form.
If you do not have a WINDA ID yet: please request one. After filling in the requested data, an activation code, valid for 48 hours, will be sent to you by e-mail. Once you activate it and enter your password, you will receive a confirmation with your WINDA ID. Your WINDA ID will also appear at the top right of the page at that time. This WINDA ID is required for the registration of your certificates. We kindly ask you to send us your WINDA ID (preferably a few days before the training) by e-mail. -

What is included in the price of the GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning)?
- E-learning
- Practical training at our training location in the Waalhaven
- Digital certificate as proof of completion. A paper certificate will be not sent by default. However, if desired, you can receive a paper GWO certificate at an additional cost of €25 excluding VAT. Read our blog article for more information. You will receive the same certificate upon completion of the GWO Sea Survival - Basic (Blended Learning) as if you were taking the classroom version.

Can I also only follow the GWO Sea Survival training or do I have to follow the entire GWO module at once?
It is possible to follow the individual training courses of the complete GWO module. -
Do I need to have swimming certificates to participate in the GWO Sea Survival training?
It is not necessary to be in possession of a swimming diploma, but we do advise you to contact DELTA Safety Training prior to the training if you are not in possession of a swimming diploma. For your own safety, this is recommended. -
What do I learn during Sea Survival training?
During this training you learn how to survive at sea. The training consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theory you have just learned can immediately be put into practice during the practical part.
