New SCC final and test requirements
Starting January 1, 2026, SSVV will adjust the final and test terms (ETT) of the SCC exams.
Effective January 1, 2026, the SCC exam will change dramatically. The new Final and Test Terms (ETT 3.0) will replace the current ETT 2.0. According to SSVV, this renewal is necessary because the existing testing requirements are based too much on petrochemical activities, making them not always recognizable for students from other sectors. As of 2026, the test requirements will be completely sector-neutral.
What does this mean for students and trainers?
📘 ETT 3.0 replaces ETT 2.0
The updated final and testing requirements contain modifications to approximately 20 test items. Others have been slightly modified.
- Present (ETT 2.0)
Specialist machinery
Lots of dry theory
Industry-specific terms
Definitions of terms
Focus on instructions
- From January 1, 2026 (ETT 3.0)
General machines & situations
Practical situations with insight
Universal safety topics
Recognize and apply in context
Focus on own responsibility (LMRA, toolbox, LOTO)
🛠 No more branch-specific exams
Exams will become branch-neutral. Among other things, the "green exams" will disappear.
📝Newexam on the way
Subject to reservations, an updated SCC exam based entirely on the ETT 3.0 will be available January 1, 2026 . The Dutch-language exam will be available from January 1, 2026. The foreign-language exams will follow as soon as possible; there will be official communication about this.
🧠More attention to learning needs
SSVV's updated SCC website helps students make better choices based on their learning style. This is especially important for difficult(er) learners. That means no more memorizing definitions or theoretical concepts, but more risk recognition and estimation of correct behavior.
👷 Active safety behavior will become more important
Working together for safety. That means there will be more focus on toolbox meetings and LMRA (Last Minute Risk Analysis)
🧪 Occupational hygiene strategy added
You will learn to control risks in the correct order:
1. Source approach
2. Collective measures
3. Individual measures
4. Personal protective equipment (PPE) as the last option
🚨 Emergency Procedures & Incident Response newly added
What is expected in the event of a fire, explosion or accident? Also covered more on assembly areas, alarm lines and first actions.
Adjusted exam duration and content
B-VCA continues to consist of 40 questions, with the same available time as before.
VOL-VCA and VIL-VCU will be shortened from 70 to 60 questions. The time available will most likely be adjusted to 60 minutes, although this has not yet been finalized.
This adjustment is in line with the broader trend of making exams less theoretical and more applicable to real-world situations.
