CAT B EBS Training for Travel to the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS)
Effective April 1, 2026, it will be mandatory for helicopter passengers traveling to the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) to have completed CAT B (EBS) training.

.” Element NL/NOGEPA.
Our new “Category B EBS Rebreather Training Norway” course provides helicopter passengers traveling offshore with the knowledge and skills necessary for the safe use of a Category B EBS rebreather. The program combines theory with practical training, with the practical exercises taking place in a pool environment.
The course has been developed for training providers and meets the requirements of BSL D 2–3 §3a and the mutual recognition agreement of NOIA. The training is delivered by an Element NL-accredited training provider for basic safety training (0.5A/B course), with Element NL overseeing the quality of the training delivery.
What does this mean for students?
Any student who does not yet hold a BOSIET/FOET/NOGEPA 0.5A certificate that includes EBS rebreather training and who works in the Netherlands, Norway, or Denmark will be required to complete this additional training to comply with Norwegian regulations.
What does the training entail?
Introduction to the principles of rebreather systems, including:
1. Emergency procedures
2. Practical exercises in a pool environment, including:
3. Acclimatization and familiarization exercises
4. Four HUET evacuations using EBS
The training lasts approximately 2 hours and does not need to be repeated. You must hold a valid OPITO BOSIET/FOET or NOGEPA 0.5A certificate to participate in this training. The training is conducted in English, unless all participants speak only Dutch; in that case, the training can be provided in Dutch. For other languages, please contact us for a customized quote.
